Many console gamers are content to utilize headsets with built-in microphones; they’re easy to use, don’t weigh heavily on personal budgets, and comprise dual audio-recording features. However, for serious gamers and PS4 players, a separate microphone is a good investment. Standalone microphones provide the user flexibility of movement, a higher grade of sound quality, and much greater versatility than a standard built-in microphone.

In the past, high-quality gaming microphones were a luxury item, but with increasing technology and ease of availability, their price has gone down substantially, and many brands and models are now relatively affordable, and a worthwhile investment for podcasters, streamers, and gamers. Playstation 4 players focused on upgrading their experience with customized controllers and high-grade headsets cannot afford to miss out on the best PS4 microphone.

1. Blue Yeti X

Pros

Cons

Connection: USB connector | Weight: 2.8 lbs | Bit-rate: 24-bit | Sample Rate: 48kHz | Condensers: 4 condensers | Polar Patterns: Cardioid, Omni, Figure-8, Stereo

The Blue Yeti X is our pick for the best microphone for PS4. Equipped with 4 different voice patterns, you can choose the best voice pattern for your unique situation.

While it is on the slightly more expensive side of microphones, this is because it comes packed with more technology than most other PS4 microphones. If you are a settled gamer, and you have a following on Twitch or YouTube, it is important you have a microphone to share your beautiful voice with all your viewers in crisp detail.

Plus, who wants to struggle figuring out if they are too loud or too quiet when gaming? No one and the Blue Yeti X fixes this problem by allowing you to see how loud you are speaking based on LED lights on the microphone itself.

No other PS4 microphone on the market comes to the same level as the Blue Yeti X in terms of functionality and the quality of your audio. It also comes with only a few drawbacks, with one of the largest being it is not equipped with a USB-c port, but only a micro-USB.

This can make it difficult at times to use this microphone easily, but with all its other capabilities and quality, it more than makes up for this.  Whether you are streaming to your audience on twitch or playing games with your friends this microphone is a great choice.

2. HyperX QuadCast S

Pros

Cons

Platforms: PC, macOS, PS4 & PS5, Xbox | Weight: 1.32 lbs | Color: RBG Lights | Type: Corded Electric | Channels: 1 channel | Polar Patterns: Cardioid, Bidirectional, Omnidirectional, Stereo

The HyperX QuadCast S tops the charts for the best RGB PS4 microphones. It has a large number of capabilities that come for a great price. We were quite impressed with the quality of both the sound of the audio and the intensity of the RGB LED lights the microphone comes with.

The lights, however, are not just there for decoration, which means you can not just turn them off whenever you want. This is because the LED lights tell you when you are muted and unmuted, which can be done through a tap.

You no longer have to deal with fumbling about to turn off your microphone. You can just give it a quick tap, the lights will turn off, and you will be muted. Perfect for those moments when someone comes into your recording space with disregard for your gaming.

Its greatest function, though, is its vibration suppression. This keeps it from picking up those nasty sounds that can occur when you accidentally bump it. You no longer have to worry about sending a burst of static to your viewers and friends when you move your mic.

The other great part about this microphone is that it doesn’t matter if you connect it to your PS4, Twitch, Discord, or any other platform. You will still get great audio. It has been verified by various platforms, including TeamSpeak and Discord, so you no longer have to worry about your audio not working on specific platforms.

However, there is the drawback that you can only control the LEDs and mic through the software provided by the company. This means you will have to download the software and configure it yourself if you want to use the mic optimally when you are gaming.

3. Fifine USB Microphone

Pros

Cons

Connector: USB | Material: Metal | Type: Wired | Weight: 14.1 oz | Signal-to-noise-ratio: 78 dB | Polar Pattern: Unidirectional

The Fifine Metal Condenser Recording Microphone is the perfect microphone for those who are just beginning out in the streaming niche or just want to speak with friends while they game on the PS4. It has a low cost, though you do not get all the bells and whistles you would typically get with a more expensive microphone.

It is the best budget PS4 microphone we could find, and even though it may lack the capabilities of other microphones, it still provides you with good audio for its price. We know that it can be hard to find an excellent low-budget PS4 mic when you just want to talk with your friends.

The drawback though, with this microphone, is it has a very small sound pick-up range, meaning you have to be right next to the microphone for people to hear you very well. The range turns out to be about 5 inches from your mouth to the microphone itself, so be sure to keep it close to your mouth when speaking.

However, it does come with a long USB cable, making it easier to get the microphone right where you need it when gaming. Make sure not to trip over the cable though, when you are getting up from your seat.

The beauty of having this microphone being only USB compatible means whether you use PS4, Windows, or macOS, this microphone will be ready to go right away. We love microphones that do not take a lot of extra software to work, and if you are using this microphone, you are probably the same way.

4. Antlion Audio ModMic

Attachable Pick

Pros

Cons

Location: On-Ear | Connectors: USB, 3.5 mm jack | Type: Wired | Polar Pattern: Unidirectional

The Antlion Audio ModMic is the best attachable PS4 microphone we could find. It comes with both great audio and a great price, making it a great option for those looking to have a good time with friends and family online.

It comes with a two-meter-long USB cable, so you will have no trouble with having too short of a cord for your microphone. However, it sometimes tends to become tangled or get hung up on things, so you will want to make sure you are keeping it safely out of the way of other objects.

It is easy to remove and place onto your headphones, and it can be attached to any pair of headphones through a magnet, but this means you already have to own a pair of headphones. This can sometimes mean an additional expense to get this microphone, but if you already have a pair of headphones it is cheaper than buying a new headset.

The quality of the audio produced is quite good for the price, and since it is unidirectional, it will only pick up the sound from your talking. Coupled with its noise-reduction technology you can speak clearly and without worry about external noise being picked up and broadcasted to your friends and family while you game.

This microphone can also be used for Twitch or Youtube streamers when gaming on a PS4 but it won’t provide you with the same quality as the other microphones on this list. This is meant more for just gaming or talking with friends and family, where you do not have to worry about multi-directional audio.

5. Razer Seiren X

Streaming Pick

Pros

Cons

Weight: 1.85 lbs | Platform: Universal | Connector: USB/AC | Polar Patterns: Super Cardioid | Sample Rate: 44-48 kHz | Bit-rate: 16-bit | Signal-to-noise ratio: 85 dB | Microphone Type: Condenser |  Controls: Mute, Volume, Add Volume

The Razer Seiren X is the best PS4 microphone for streaming we could find, and no surprise, it was a Razer product. They are one of the top gaming technology companies, and they typically deliver when it comes to top-of-the-line products.

We found this microphone to be great for streamers regardless of the platform for a myriad of reasons. Firstly, it delivers high-quality audio in a price range that is affordable for most people.

Secondly, the microphone is designed to have zero latency, so you will not suffer from having an echo in your stream, which is something we hate, and you probably do too. No one wants to have an echo while trying to stream, and this microphone works to make sure you do not have to worry about that.

It also comes with Super-Cardioid polar patterns, allowing it to pick up sound in a large area from every direction, but also effectively cancels out background noise. This allows you to find the best angle from which to stream without worrying about a microphone that can not pick up your voice.

There are some minor drawbacks with this microphone, though, with one of the chief problems being its high sensitivity with PS4s. You will probably need to play around with your settings a little to achieve the perfect sensitivity with your microphone. It won’t be as simple as just plugging it in if you want to get the most out of this mic.

The microphone also can not be adjusted height-wise, so if you need to adjust the height of this microphone, you will need to get a boom in addition to it. The microphone has a good base height on it so, for most people, it should work just fine.

How To Choose The Right PS4 Microphone

When buying a PS4 microphone, there are several important factors to consider; which might make or break your experience with your new microphone. Many microphones are designed for specific situations and environments, and might perform exceptionally well in exactly those conditions, but poorly in others.

For this reason, you should consider what you’re going to use your microphone for, whether that be streaming, straight gaming, or even podcasting on the side; and who you’re doing it with. Here are some parameters to consider when buying and looking at different microphones on the market:

Polar Pattern

Arguably the most important component of a microphone for PS4 gaming, streaming, or podcasting is its polar pattern, or simply pattern. There are four general pattern styles, each of which influences what the mic picks up versus what it might mute or filter out.

The first pattern is cardioid, which has a focused range directly in front of the mic. This pattern is best for cutting out external input and disturbances, and works exceptionally well for gaming and streaming for the individual user. It is not, however, meant for a larger source of sound; say, two people, or a crowd.

If you’re looking to stream, game, or cast with a friend, you’re going to want bi-directional, which records directly in front of and behind the microphone. These microphones are used most often for one-on-one podcasts or interviews.

Widening the range of detected sound, the omnidirectional pattern picks up sound from every direction. Gamers who game with friends, rather than alone, will find that this microphone is far better suited to their needs; but these microphones will pick up sound from all over the room, making them worse for individuals.

The final polar pattern is stereo, also known as figure-eight, which is a short-range, sensitive mic that is equal in sensitivity on both sides. If you’ve seen ASMR, you’ll have seen a stereo microphone; but these microphones are generally not suited for gameplay.

Best PS4 Microphone

Durability

How durable you need your PS4 microphone depends on your lifestyle. Streamers and gamers on the go may have to pack up their setups several times a day, necessitating streamlined, simplified, and sturdy microphones that can take the rigors imposed on them by the daily life of travel. Larger microphones with long tripods and pop shields may be exposed to wear and tear during packing, while small, single-frame microphones can be stuffed in a bag and taken out at will, for plug-and-play usage.

Audio and Recording Quality

There are many important qualities to consider when choosing a microphone, but ultimately the clarity and quality of the audio produced trump nearly everything else. The number of condensers in the microphone- from single, to dual, to triple, to quadruple- will help with the audio clarity, while looking at the kHz output of each microphone will also distinguish which has better and clearer sounds.

Connectivity

While connection issues may be limited for USB and headphone-jack-compatible PS4 mics, it’s very important to make sure the cord is long enough to reach from your setup to your desired microphone location. Some microphones come with cables that reach up to ten feet long, while others may only extend a few feet. It’s important to make sure your microphone will be able to reach from your play area to your console.

Price

It may be tempting to sink hundreds of dollars into professional-level, studio-ready equipment, but these accessories are not necessary for the average PS4 gamer and streamer and are often so complicated they prevent beginners from progressing.

Ultimately, someone looking to upgrade their PS4 experience does not need to buy extravagant, bank-breaking microphones, but should instead invest in quality, professional-level microphones designed for streaming and gaming, which have wonderful audio quality at a fraction of the price of studio equipment.

Closing Thoughts

With the quality of microphones increasing, and prices becoming more and more affordable, the best PS4 microphones are now a sound investment for any avid Playstation 4 gamer.

In today’s modern marketplace, prospective buyers will be glad to know that they have many options from studio quality to the average built-in headset microphone, with prices ranging from fifty to hundreds of dollars. These microphones are both versatile and travel-friendly, and they make streaming, gaming online, and creating podcasts much easier to do. They are great additions to the arsenal of a PS4 fan and will continue to become not only better but more affordable over time.
